The term “hosting” does not describe a particular service, but a variety of services which provide a variety of functions to a domain address. Having a site and emails, for example, are two individual services though in the general case they come together, so most of the people consider them as one single service. Actually, each and every domain name has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each specific service - the first one is a numeric IP address, which identifies where the site for the domain address is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the e-mails for the domain address. As an example, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain name has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the e-mail will then be directed to the correct server. The concept behind employing separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you could have your site hosted by one service provider and the e-mails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting package from us, you will be able to view, set up and change any A or MX record for your domain names. So long as a given domain has our Name Servers, you will be able to change certain records by using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your site or emails directed to any other company if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our advanced tool will permit you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main Internet domain the slightest bit. If you decide to use the e-mail services of another company and they want you to set up more than two MX records, you can easily do that with only a few clicks through the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for each of your domains or subdomains is extremely easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are handled using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section committed to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you can click on every one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you'll not experience any issues if you want to switch your site or emails to an alternative provider while keeping the second service with our company. If necessary, you can also create additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the recommendations of the new provider.
